TOW BOATS LENT

Four particularly fast tow boats have been volunteered by Canterbury Region members to tow the skiers during the championships. Mr J. Gallagher’s Hi Jack was the official tow boat at the world championships at Surfer’s Paradise and is

powered by twin Mercury outboard motors. This 18-foot Carribbean hulled craft develops 220 horse power. The other three boats are all powered by V 8 Chevrolet motors and two of them, Mr H. Turnbull’s Aquarius and Mr T. Clapshaw’s Tamoure, are from the Christchurch Water Sports Club as is Hi Jack.

The other boat, Mr R. Butler’s Hang On, is from the Ellesmere Aquatic Club. The boats will be driven by four towing experts, Messrs M. Duder, D. Nairn, H. Chaney and H. Turnbull. Should blustery conditions prevail at the championships, some effort will be made to run the events as early in the morning as possible when the water is usually calmer.
