Southern Silver, one of R. Purdon’s powerful three-horse bracket in the All-Aged Stakes at Auckland on Saturday night, showed his fitness with a dashing workout at Pukekohe yesterday.
Driven by A. Gadsby, Southern Silver covered 13 furlongs in 3min 36 4-ssec. He went at a great rate from the half-mile, cutting out this section in Imin 1 4-ssec and the final quarter in 29 l-ssec.
These times were exceptional considering the track was dead after overnight rain.
Milford Boy and Chief Command are Purdon’s other representatives in the All-aged Stakes. Chief Command was not hoppled but Milford Boy (R. Purdon) accompanied Governor Frost (Gadsby) over 13 furlongs. Governor Frost set a leisurely pace. It was not increased until . approaching the quarterpole. The pair were on terms at the finish after sprinting the quarter in 2min 31 l-ssec. The full distance took 3min 44
Thurber Scott (H. Purdon), one of four three-year-olds in the All-Aged Stakes, went smoothly over a mile and a half. He came the last mile in Imin ssec and the quarter in 32 3-ssec.
Governor Frost and Southern Silver are to be entered for the Easter Cup series at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting, which will open on March 30. Their
trainer, R. Purdon. said at Pukekohe yesterday that it was probable they would make the trip if air transport could be arranged.
