Diplomatic Postings
(N.Z.PA.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, March 12.
New Ambassadors for Washington, Paris and Bonn were announced last week by the British Government. The posts are regarded as the most senior in the Diplomatic Service.
Mr John Freeman, the present British High Commissioner to India and formereditor of the “New Statesman,” will succeed Sir Patrick Dean, who will retire early next year, as Ambassador to Washington. The new Ambassador to France will be Mr Christopher Soames, the former Conservative minister. This appointment by a Labour Government of a prominent Conservative caused considerable surprise. Sir Roger Jackling, Deputy Under-Secretary in the Foreign Office, was appointed to the Bonn post. He was once Economic Adviser to the High Commission and British Commercial representative in Germany.
