Competitions Entries

Nearly 1000 persons have entered the annual competitions of the Christchurch Competitions Society in May. The secretary (Mr G. L. Bradbury) said yesterday about 850 children and 150 adults were in the entries which closed last week. About 70 come from as far afield as Auckland and Invercargill. The speech and drama section, which was held in the Trinity Church Hall last year, has been shifted to the Banks Avenue School hall, near Shirley Boys’ High School. The vocal competitions will be held in the Shirley Methodist Hall, the instrumental competitions in the Shirley Intermediate School hall, and the dancing at Shirley Boys’ High School. Mr Bradbury said the venues had been changed to save expense and to bring the sections of the competitions together. The modelling section will be held in the Knox Church hall, Bealey Avenue, on April 20.
