HUNGER TRAIL
Figure Now $14,297 By the end of February, $14,297 had been given to C.0.R.5.0. At one inch for every cent given this represents 22 miles 99 yards along the hunger trail from North Cape to the Bluff. The response to the special Vietnam appeal had not been as great as expected, said the Christchurch district organiser (Mr R. H. French). Only $2OO had been received at the local office in response to the appeal for funds to purchase food for 500,000 refugees in the Saigon area. “We are still open for contributions,” he said. During the last month the Christchurch branch had sent three bales and five cases of clothing and footwear to Fiji, five bales and 19 cases to Korea, and 19 bales and five cases to Algeria. Another 17 bales and eight cases were awaiting shipment to Algeria, India and Vietnam. Mr A. Arnold, of Auckland, has been appointed to the staff of C.0.R.5.0. as youth liaison officer and will take up his duties in the next few days.
Mr Arnold, a prominent worker in the Catholic Youth Movement, will live in Wellington and work in close cooperation with the National Youth Council in promoting the “Youth Against Hunger” Campaign.
