Clarke May Miss World Cup

The 1966 New Zealand Rugby League representative, G. H. Clarke, may not be available to play in the world championship in Australia and New Zealand this year.

Clarke, who was a replacement for R. W. Bailey in the second test during the last tour of New Zealand by Britain, will not be able to attend training because of work.

He was chosen to train for the world championship by the national selectors after missing the tour of Australia last season because of injury.

Apart from Clarke, training by the Canterbury members of the 80-man New Zealand squad has been disrupted because W. P. Noonan ion a working holiday in Australia). R. s. J. Irvine (injured), E. Kereopa (temporarily In Rotorua), J. H Fisher (recently returned from holiday). and P. M. v. White (transferred

to Northland) have not been available to attend the weeklv sessions.

However, the remaining squad members and the additional young players nominated by the Canterbury selectors * had trained with “amazing enthusiasm” in very high temperatures, the provincial organiser of coaching (Mr L. R Huston) told the board of control last evening.

Two Nominated.— Messrs L. R Huston (Canterbury) and W F Mountford (West Coast) were nominated as manager and coach respectively for the Southern Zone team to play Northern Zone at Huntlv oh April 2R.

Club s Application.— An application for senior status, received from the Shirlev club was referred to the incoming board of control.
