Waitangi Flag Tradition dictated the flying at Waitangi on Tuesday of the Union Jack, rather than of the New Zealand ensign, the Minister of Lands (Mr Maclntyre), who is administrator of the Waitangi National Trust, said yesterday. He said he had asked the question himself and had been told that the Union Jack was the flag used by Captain Hobson on the day the treaty was s'gned 128 years ago. The celebration was, perhaps, the only official occasion in New Zealand on which it was still used. Bentonite Exports The Nelson Lime and Marble Company, Ltd, hoped to make trial shipments of bentonite from its mine at Hororata through Lyttelton towards the end of this year, the Lyttelton Harbour Board was told yesterday. C.0.R.5.0. Clothes Last year 393 bales of clothing and 166 cases of clothing and other articles, to a total value of $392,275, had been sent overseas from the Christchurch office of C.0.R.5.0., the chairman of the Christchurch District C.0.R.5.0. Committee (Sir Francis Adams) told a meeting of about 30 members of the C.0.R.5.0. packing committee yesterday. The bales had contained 142,645 garments and the cases 10,363 articles, including footwear, raincoats, fur coats and milk powder. The total value of clothing sent overseas by C.0.R.5.0. agencies throughout New Zealand last year was $2,105,000. Dredge As Scrap The dredge Canterbury is to be sold as scrap because noone wants to buy her as a dredge. Mr L. G. Amos, chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, said yesterday that a number of inquiries had been made, and several offers were expected. At present the dredge was laid up.
