Protest In Stakes
Prince Magundi capped off a lengthy string of minor placings with a stylish win in the Bealey Stakes, but he had to survive a protest before his victory became official.
The protest was lodged by E. G. Low, the rider of the runner-up, My Greatest He alleged that his mount had been hampered about a furlong from the finish when Prince Magundi, ridden by M. J. Skelton, had shifted in and taken his line.
After Low had given evidence the committee heard M. J. Skelton, W. D. Skelton, the rider of La Comtesse, and viewed a film of the incident. They found that any hampering to My Greatest was not directly due to Prince MagUndi shifting ground and dismissed the protest. Prince Magundi ran on strongly to win by threequarters of a length from My Greatest. La Comtesse was a length away third and Khyber came from far back in the last half-mile for a fair fourth.
