Progress On Bridge (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. Aucklanders today got their first glimpse of what the Harbour Bridge will be like when the extensions have been completed. As the first girder on the west side of the bridge was winched into position this morning the full-width view of the bridge and extensions appeared. The work is being done by Japanese contractors, who installed the first of the girders, weighing 359 tons, early in November. Including the cantilever finish to the girders on the eastern side, the width of the bridge and extensions Is now 137 ft. This will be slightly increased when the western cantilever is attached When completed in August next year the bridge will have been extended from four lanes to eight.
