HELP FOR FARMERS
No Requests Made There had been no applications for assistance under the Government guarantee scheme in North Canterbury, Mr M. H. Rogers, district appraiser of the State Advances Corporation, told a meeting of the North Canterbury Agricultural Advisory Committee on Tuesday. The scheme is designed to help sheepfarmers facing financial difficulties because of the fall in export prices to obtain sufficient seasonal finance to meet essential expenditure. Mr Rogers said that there had been a few inquiries from farmers and stock firms. There had been a few general discussions —no more than three—but no firm applications had been made. The chairman of the finance sub-committee, Mr W. N. Dunlop, said the effects of foot-and-mouth disease in Britain and devaluation had altered the situation since the scheme had been formulated.
