Festival Brochures

Representatives of five of the countries whose art and artists will be at the Christchurch Pan Pacific Arts Festival were presented with 64-page festival souvenir brochures by the Mayor of Christchurch (Sir George Manning) yesterday.

Sales of the 19,000 of the brochures, at 35c each will begin tomorrow. “This Pan Pacific Arts Fes-

tival is a very wonderful experience for the citizens of Cljristchurch and the whole of Canterbury,” said Sir George Manning. “The standing of the artists and the arrangements made are all that could be desired.

“It gives the citizens the opportunity to see and hear the best in the applied arts.” The chairman of the festival executive (Mr H. G. Hay) said the sale of the brochure would be the first opportunity for the people of Canterbury to participate in the festival.

Japan was represented by Mrs J. S. Pallot, the wife of the honorary consul of Japan in Christchurch: Australia was represented by Miss S. Daniel, daughter of the Australian Trade Commissioner in the South Island: Mr B. Williams, whp is of Spanish descent, represented Spain in national costume; Mr N. W. Peddie, who’ led the South Pole-Queen Maud Land traverse in Antarctica recently, represented the United States; and Fiji was represented by Private Ilokava Kotomainasinu from Burnham Military Camp. . Brochure sales will begin at 7 a.m. tomorrow when about 120 members of the Royal Christchurch Music Society hope to meet passengers at every bus stop in the middle of Christchurch. Four stalls will be manned in the city all day.

House-to-house sales will be made at the week-end and 43 branches of trading and savings banks in Christchurch will sell brochures on their premises during the next three weeks.

The music society has provided five telephone numbers which may be rung on Friday by those wanting brochures. They are 65-084, 887-951, 858505, 60-670, 47-654. Efforts will be made to deliver the brochures at the week-end.
