Canty Aid To Lepers
By Thursday of last week $6llO had been received in the Canterbury postal district for the national Mission to Lepers Appeal which began last August.
The Christchurch area secretary (Miss M. G. Titheridge) said this was $640 more than the total received in the Canterbury area last year and $BB9 more than at the end of January. “The increase has come about mainly because of the co-operation of ministers and clergy in the circulation of the appeal envelopes, and we are very grateful to them,” Miss Titheridge said. The money brought in by the appeal, which continues for a year will be used to support New Zealand missionaries overseas and for the general work of the mission, which is administered through its London office. Miss Titheridge said the secretary of the Mission to Lepers in New Zealand (the Rev. M. Feist) would visit Indonesia in March with the secretary of the Mission in Australia, to conduct a preliminary survey. Until recently not a great deal had been done to alleviate the distress of leprosy in Indonesia, she added.
