Folk-Dancers Acquitted

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MONTREAL, Jan. 26. Two young African girls who danced bare-breasted with the folk-dancing troupe. Les Ballets Africans, have been cleared today of accusations that they took part in an indecent performance. The charges were brought under a Montreal municipal by-law. Judge Henri Beaulieu ruled in the Social Welfare Court that the performance, in Montreal’s Place des Arts on December 6, did not fall under the Criminal Code definition of obscenity or indecency. Elise Poulit, aged 35, a Montreal producer, and Sekou Sakho, the troupe’s direc-tor-general, were cleared on charges of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. Charges against three other juvenile members of the troupe had been dismissed earlier.
