“SEEKERS” POPULAR

Heavy Demand For Seats The demand for seats for performances by the Australian vocal group, “The Seekers,” in Christchurch on February 24 and 26 has led to confusion and disappointment Concession rates for group bookings have been cancelled and there is little prospect that many seats will be left when cash bookings open. The manager of the theatre where “The Seekere” will appear (Mr R. O’Connor) said yesterday that the demand for seats had been greater than for any other live show, including the “Beatles.” He said the shows had not been advertised but there had been a flood of block bookings from all parts of Canterbury and the West Coast. Concession bookings at $3.60 a seat had been, closed but group bookings were still being accepted by mail at $4.10 a seat. Mr O’Connor said the decision to accept only mail bookings until February 12 hau been made to enable country people to reserve seats. A member of the Post Office Social Club in Christchurch complained yesterday that the theatre had refused to honour a block booking for 50 persons made by telephone last week. The member had gone to the theatre yesterday morning with $lBO but had been told the seats for the evening performance on Saturday, February 24, had been sold. The management had later offered 42 seats for the matinee performance of Monday, February 26.
