AID WITH FINANCE

One Farmer Applies (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. The Government’s guarantee scheme of seasonal finance for sheep farmers does not seem to have caught on. At the end of January only one sheepfarmer from Hamilton, had applied for the guarantee. Asked for reasons for this, a State Advances Corporation spokesman said that the substantial rise in sheepfarmers’ income after devalution was a factor which could not have been anticipated when the scheme was announced. He also suggested that farmers had budgeted wisely for reduced incomes.

There have been more than a score of inquiries, including some from Dunedin. The guarantee covers the amount by which revenue for the season falls short of essential farming and living expenditure and charges.
