FERRYMEAD TRAILER
Iron Wheels Worn Out A double-decked tram trailer pulled by the Kitson No. 7 steam tram at Ferrymead Historic Park has had so much use since the carnival began three weeks ago that the cast-iron wheels have worn out The trailer, which carried thousands of visitors around the park, will be refitted with steel wheels at a cost of about $2OO to the Tramway Historical Society. Other trailers will be used next week-end at the carnival. The final week-end of the carnival will begin with a vintage car rally at 11 a.m. After the rally a gymkhana event will be held for the cars. Sea cadets from the training ships Cornwall and Steadfast and a crew from the Girls' Nautical Training Corps will compete in a rowing race from the Ferrymead bridge. After the race, the boats will be used to give rides to the public. There will be a police dog demonstration by the dogtraining section of the Christchurch Police and the Wd locomotive will chug along the original Canterbury train line.
