Big Sulphur Cargo

Part of what is probably the largest bulk sulphur cargo to come to New Zealand is now being discharged from the 12,773-ton Norwegian bulk carrier Sunray at Lyttelton’s Gladstone Pier. The 19,000-ton cargo was loaded at Coatzacoalcos (Mexico) and Port Sulphur (Louisiana) and consigned to Lyttelton (6500 tons) and Napier (12,500 tons). The sulphur is being carried by road transport to Kempthome Prosser’s Hornby chemical works through the road tunnel. The Sunray is expected to sail for Napier tomorrow. I
