A Doctor For Cheviot
(from Our Own Reporter)
WELLINGTON, Jan. 16. Dr Paula McKellar, at present in Melbourne, will take up the vacant medical practice at Cheviot next month, the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand) said today. “Dr McKellar has this day accepted the position in a
cable to the Health Department,” said Mr Shand, who is member of Parliament for the district
“Dr R. L. Withers has offered to maintain the practice till Dr McKellar arrives. Dr Withers, who practised in Kaikoura for many years, is well known in the district. “Dr McKellar was born tn New Zealand and she graduated in 1954 at Aberdeen. Since then she has had experience in general practice, surgery, obstetrics and general medicine in New Zealand, Australia and Britain. "The Director-General of
Health and his staff have gone to a great deal of trouble to help find a doctor to take up the practice in Cheviot and I would like on behalf of all the people in the district to thank them.
“The Cheviot County Council, too, has made great efforts to see that medical services are maintained in the district.
“The superintendent of the North Canterbury Hospital Board also has been of great assistance, and has promised as far as possible to provide a doctor to give the Cheviot doctor occasional relief.”
