(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. Victoria, the present champion, tightened its chances for the Sheffield Shield cricket trophy yesterday when it beat New South Wales by seven runs. Victoria wili meet Western Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground from February 9 to February 13. Scores:— Victoria 244 and 2/171 dec. <K. Stackpole 73 not out, R. Cowper 52, P. Sheahan 31; D. Renneberg 1/26). New South Wales 237 and 7/95 (G. Davies 26 not out, R. Simpson 22; A. Connolly 3/35, G. Watson 2/30). Record Intact South Australia maintained its unbeaten record at the West Australia Cricket Association’s ground since the 1960-61 season and moved into equal top place in the Sheffield Shield competition after beating Western Australia outright yesterday. Western Australia, which passed 200 with only three wickets down, slumped badly before tea and was beaten by 95 runs. Scores:—South Australia 2.24 and 278. Western Australia 167 and nine for 250.
