Computers For Bank
The National Bank of New Zealand in Christchurch will install computers to handle ledger work in August and September this year. When the computers have been installed, work would be brought in from other branches in the South Island each night for processing, the accountant (Mr P. Bygrave) said yesterday. Already staff were being trained in Wellington to feed the computer. The computers would undoubtedly mean more efficient work, but there were no plans to put off staff because of them, he said. It might make a difference in several years when the bank increased staff, but computers would never take away the functions of many sections of the bank.
