FERRYMEAD LAND
Deputation To Ministers In the absence overseas of the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk), Mr M. A. Connelly, M.P., will lead a deputation to the Government, seeking Railways Department land for Ferrymead Historic Park. A date for the deputation had not been settled yet, Mr Connelly said yesterday. At the request of the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) the deputation would approach the Minister of Railways (Mr Gordon) and the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath). It is mostly a long strip along which trains ran to Ferrymead before the Lyttelton tunnel was opened. The department Is asking $5OOO for the land, and so far the Government has declined to give the land or to let it at a token rental. The Ferrymead project has received no financial support from the Government The first approach was made in 1960. Similar projects in Auckland and Timaru have since received grants.
