MAYOR’S ESCAPE
Car Plunges Over Bank The Mayor of Greymouth, Dr B. M. Dallas, had a narrow escape from serious injury early yesterday morning when the car he was driving plunged over a 50-foot drop into a riverbed at White’s Hill, on the Greymouth side of Arthur’s Pass. Dr Dallas was travelling to Church Bay to join Mrs Dallas for a holiday. After the accident he walked the mile and a half from White’s Hill to the Arthur’s Pass township, arriving at 2 a.m. Another motorist took Dr Dallas to near Springfield, where he was met by a taxi from Christchurch, which took him to Church Bay.
Dr Dallas was alone in the car which was described as being “severely wrecked.”
