11 MILLION MILES

A few weeks ago a new Holden completed the elevenmillionth test mile recorded at the General MotorsHolden proving ground at Lang Lang, Victoria.

The Lang Lang ground was established in 1957 and was the first proving ground of its type in Australia. Its facilities include sections of almost every possible type of road surface, dust-testing areas, high-speed circuits, water splashes, and hills for testing climbing ability.

The only other major testing area in Australia is owned by Ford, which has a newer proving ground in the You Yang Mountains, near Geelong.

A UNITED STATES firm has developed a type of salt which, it says, is suitable for use on icy roads, but which will not cause vehicle bodies to rust.
