Li Tsai Fa, a 59-year-old former restaurant owner in Hong Kong, yesterday had his death sentence for murder commuted to life imprisonment .after a four-year legal battle Li had been convicted and sentenced to death for murdering a banker, Mr Wu Chia Yuan, on September 13, 1963. in Taipei. In the first trial, at Taipei District Court, Li was sentenced to death. He appealed to the Taiwan High Court, but it upheld the lower court decision. Since then, Li had fought for his life between the Supreme Court and the Taiwan High Court. He appealed to the Supreme Court four times —and each time, the Supreme Court returned the case to the High Court.
