Tolka Dead
(N.Z. Press Association i NEW PLYMOUTH. The Hawera-trained mare, Tolka, was destroyed on Tuesday night after being injured in the Walter Weston Memorial Handicap at New Plymouth earlier the same day. The well-perfotmed six-year-old was raced by Mr H. McCarvil (Matamata) and Mr P. McCarvil (Lowgarth). She was trained by H. H. Mills. Tolka broke down badly in the back straight when improving from the rear of the field. She was pulled up about three furlongs from the finish. < A veterinary surgeon found she- had suffered an injury to the pelvis and spine. Tolka became paralysed from the hind-quarters down.
