Plans To Export Marines’ Brew
(New Zealand Press Association)
HAMILTON, December 8.
An export market in the United States for a brand of New Zealand beer could result from the second pilgrimage to Wellington and Paekakariki in February of some 200 members of the United States Second Marine Division Association.
The beer, Leatherneck Lager, was first produced by Waikato Breweries, Hamilton, when the former marines made their first visit to New Zealand five years ago, and hundreds of dozens of the brand will await them in February.
To follow up the tremendous reception to the brew from the marines, who were stationed during the Second World War at McKay’s Crossing Camp, Paekakariki, a representative of the brewery will accompany the marines to the United States and investigate marketing the beer through; marine service canteens in' the Pacific and the United | States.
The beer is the company’s Rheineck with a new label.
