Unemployed Labourers
Unemployed labourers in the Christchurch District numbered 179 on November 30. Factory workers made the next biggest category—B7 without jobs. The District Superintendent of the Department (Mr A. B. Tuck) yesterday gave the numbers of unemployed in other categories as tradesmen 46, storemen 28, and drivers 26.
Job vacancies, including those for juveniles, were 209—10 higher than at November 17. Placements over the fortnight increased by 70 to 240, compared with the previous fortnight. The number employed on Government and other special works at November 30 was 108—12 fewer than a fortnight earlier.
