FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —An anticyclone is moving away to the east and a trough of low pressure is advancing across the central Tasman Sea. Forecast: Canterbury.—Strong north-westerlies at first, but winds moderating later and tending southwest for a time; cloudy and warm; a period of rain in the Alps this morning, but little, if any, rain elsewhere. Marlborough.—North-west winds strong about Cook Strait, but mainly moderate elsewhere; cloudy; some rain developing late in the afternoon; tending cooler. Nelson.—Fresh northerly winds; becoming cloudy during the morning; some rain spreading from the west in the afternoon; mild. Buller and Westland.—Fresh northerlies backing to south-westerlies during the day; overcast with some rain during the morning, followed by a clearance from the south-west later. Outlook.—Cool south-westerlies and scattered showers in Buller, Westland and western Nelson; elsewhere mainly fine.
