Junior Table Tennis
The surprise feature of the Canterbury junior table tennis tournament held yesterday was the defeat of the treble. New Zealand under-18 champion, R. Mitchell (Avon Side Mitchell lost for the second time in two weeks to the hardhitting Hoon Hay player, K. J. Ward.
The Canterbury Junior representative, Miss M. Green (North Canterbury), dominated the girls* under-21 singles and convincingly beat Miss C. Taylor. Miss Green won four titles, and was the most successful competitor in the tournament. Results of finals were: Under 21.—Boys’ singles: K. J. Ward beat R. Mitchell, 1721, 21-18, 21-18. Girls’ singles: M. Green beqt C. Taylor. 21-18. 21-12. Boys’ doubles: Ward and Mitchell beat R. Hughes and J. Flint, 19-21, 21-16, 21-14. Girls’ doubles: C. Taylor and Green beat B. Taylor and M. Bell, 21-11, 21-16. Under 17.— Boys’ singles: C.
Samson beat R. Hughes, 21-18, 21-15. Giris’ singles: M. Green beat B. Taylor, 21-16, 21-16. Boys* doubles: Hughes and Samson beat D. Smith and P. Bland, 21-18, 21-17. Girls’ doubles: Taylor and Green beat Bell and Rich, 21-14, 21-14. Under 15.—Boys’ singles: T. Fraser beat D. Blackwell, 2110, 21-6. Girls’ singles: D. Rassie beat A. Rich, 21-12, H-15. Boys* doubles: Blackwell and Fraser beat D. Smith and Bland, 21-19, 21-11. Girls’ doubles: L, Clinton and A. Rich beat D. Rassie and J. CaHanan, 21-15, 21-19. Under 13.—Boys’ singles: G Workman beat W. Stechman, 19-21, 22-20, 23-21. Girls* singles: P. Marks beat C. L. Hart, 21-5, 21-11. Boys’ doubles: C. Workman and W. Stechmah beat P. Whittacker and W.
