Foot-And-Mouth Disease
Sir,—On one page “The Press” quotes “a senior department spokesman” claiming fliat strenuous efforts are being made to prevent the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease to New Zealand. What else did you suppose he would claim? On another page, a correspondent, John W. Blease, speaking from his own experience, offers specific criticisms of these efforts which the Director-General of Agriculture apparently finds unanswerable. Here is a splendid opportunity for “The Press” to uncover the facts. Stop quoting official mouthpieces and send a reporter to check on the allegations of Mr Blease and others like him. It is what Lord Thomson would make you do if there were not a law against him.—Yours, etc., G. V. ORANGE. December 1, 1967.
