Devaluation
Sir,—l think we are going to have an excellent opportunity very shortly to get some real idea of what our Government really thinks of the average wage-earner and family. I refer to the oil companies’ increase, coming through the devaluation of the dollar, which the Government will immediately pass on to the resellers for collection. This would be a grand time to do something for the motorist and the general public if the Government absorbed this increase in its petrol tax (much too high as it is), thereby giving some relief to the already overtaxed motorist. But the chief reason would be to keep the cost of living as it is. Otherwise, with the price of delivery going up, everything goes up, too. We want anything but that—Yours, etc, MOTORIST. November 30, 1967.
