On Joining Clubfl
Sir,—l am no stranger to this city, having grown up here, known many people, and belonged to many interesting societies and clubs. Now, after five years absence, I return to find that old friends (who presumably recruited one into the aforesaid societies) are scattered throughout the world. How does one without personal contacts find out what societies exist here and go about joining them? Judging by the reports in your women’s pages, such societies exist. Is there anywhere in Christchurch a comprehensive list of societies and clubs, including names and addresses of their secretaries, a list available for consultation by newcomers and forlorn “old hands” like me? At present the oniy organisations I know how to contact are the local Plunket mothers’ club and residents’ association—both commendable but not quite my cup of tea.—Yours, etc., BORED HOUSEWIFE.
