Memorial Avenue
Sir,—l strongly support the views of “Rational Outlook.” Obviously “Parent” is unobservant, as already there are nine business premises on Memorial Avenue. Five or six of these will remain after road-widening plans are completed. Members of the Christchurch Transport Board should devote their time and energy towards reducing losses on city bus services and leave town planning to those whose business it is. After years of opposition to the proposed shopping mall, the Waimairi County Council at its meeting on October 19 reversed its decision. This is intelligent thinking, as its members now realise that the vast majority of residents desire to have modern shopping
facilities in a convenient situation. To complete the new shopping area from Clyde Road to Otara Street, the three houses immediately west of the fish shop should be removed.—Yours, etc., PROGRESS. November 16, 1967.
