DOUBLED LEVY

Waterfront Charge CN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 17. The Waterfront Industry Commission has had to double Its administration fund levy to recover losses caused by lack of work on the waterfront throughout New Zealand. The increase involves raising the levy rate from 25c to 36c per hour, plus an additional levy surcharge of 14c per hour. The surcharge will be lifted next June. The move is expected to add $2.5m a year to shipping company costs. Shipping interests were reluctant to comment on the increase today but a spokesman for the newly formed New Zealand Pacific Line said a quick estimate indicated an increase of 15 per cent on stevedoring costs. The increase comes into force from Monday.
