PUMP IN FLAMES

(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI, Nov. 17. A Wanganui service station proprietor escaped serious injury when a petrol pump burst into flames after being struck by a car this morning. Mr M. Green, proprietor of the Alma Road Service Station, was standing beside a pump when a car drove on to the concrete apron about 7.40 am. Unable to stop, the car knocked Mr Green over, and crashed into the pump, tearing it from the ground. Flames belched from the wrecked pump and Mr Green crawled away, escaping with a slight singe. Firemen found flames shooting high in the air, but extinguished them in a few seconds using a water-fog (a concentrated drizzle like a blast of water).
