A wide interest in field studies is desirable. The appointee will be required to keep meteorological, records, service field instruments and maintain ecological experiments. Simple accommodation is avail, able, but the post is unsuitable for a family man. Appointment, which w’ill be for two years in the first instance, may be, for a graduate, in the Research Assistant grade ($A3815-4837 per annum—limits only), or, for a non-graduate, in the Technical Officer grades ($A3014-3916 per annum). In addition a territory allowance of SASOO per annum will be payable whilst resident in New Guinea. Assistance with passages and accommodation will be provided. The Professor will be required to establish a Department of Psychiatry within the new Medical School, to organise the teaching of Psychology for preclinical students and courses in Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine in the clinical years. Provision is made under the new Mental Health Services Act 1967 for the Professor to hold the position ex-officio of Clinical Commissioner of the Mental Health Services Commission and as such his responsibilities will be those of chief adviser in clinical matters within the Mental Health Services of the State. F.A.A.). Applicants should hold the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy or have had equivalent research experience. The successful applicant will be required to work on the synthesis and reactions of nitrogen heterocycles. The senior research workers j of the Department in this field are: Professor A. The salary of a Research Fellow is determined in the range of $5400-$7250 according to qualifications and experience. A grant for travel both ways by the Research Fellow and his dependents is payable, and assistance with housing is provided.
