More Ships To Be Sent Partly Loaded
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P A.) LONDON, November 8.
Seven partly-loaded ships are scheduled to sail from Britain for New Zealand to ensure that shipping programmes required by the producer boards are met. Another ship will also sail in ballast.
A spokesman for the Conference Lines said yesterday that the part-loading and ballasting were due to the dock strike in Britain, which had caused many complications.
Five partly-loaded ships and one in ballast sailed for New Zealand in October to meet the loading programmed for December. “The lines are doing every-
thing in their power to ensure there is no interference with their contractural obligations to the producer boards,” the spokesman said. “Any interroption in the shipment of New Zealand produce to Britain would cause marketing problems here. “The situation remains diffi-
i cult by the strike continuing 1 in London, and it will be ' some time before the backlog of outward cargo can be > moved. “It is encouraging to know i that the lines’ efforts have been the subject of much • appreciative comment.”
