STRIKE ENDS
Sacked Man On Stand-by (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 8 The 800 employees at the Southdown works of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Co-operative ended their oneweek strike this morning. They stopped work last Thursday in protest against the dismissal of a union delegate along with 55 other men, on redundancy grounds. The formula put to the men today was worked out in talks lasting two hours yesterday between employers’ representatives and Auckland Freezing Workers’ Union officials. It is understood that the union received acceptable assurances on the future position of union delegates. Other points on which the men agreed to return to work were: The delegate will be placed on stand-by with pay; the industry’s disputes committee will sit to hear the case; and the company forfeits its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration if the decision goes against it
