FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A ridge of high pressure lies over New Zealand; a cold front is moving eastward over the south-west Tasman. Forecast: ' Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury.—Moderate north-easterlies about coasts and north-westerlies freshening today in inland areas, possibly spreading to the coast; partly cloudy weather predominating, but some rain in the Alps later in the day; mild day temperatures. Central Marlborough and the Sounds. —Northwesterlies gradually becoming strong; becoming cloudy with moderate temperatures. Nelson.—Moderate variable winds, mainly northerlies, becoming cloudy with some rain likely later about the western ranges; moderate day temperatures. Bullet* and Westland.—Moderate variable J winds; rather cloudy skies, some scattered rain o developing from the south in the afternoon; moderate day temperatures.
