AMBITIOUS PARENTS

Children With Ulcers (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY, Oct. 13. Kindergarten children in New South Wales were developing duodenal ulcers because ambitious parents were “pushing them to succeed,” a doctor said this week. Dr Ben Haneman, of the St George Hospital, Sydney, said he knew of 30 children in the expanding Gymea-Miranda areas south of Sydney who had ulcers. "This problem, which is caused by lower-middle class parents pushing their children to succeed, is growing into virtually epidemic proportions,” he said. Dr Haneman told an Australian gastro-enterology conference in Melbourne that a detailed study had been carried out on 10 of the juvenile duodenal ulcer victims.
