Preservation Of Coral, (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY, Oct 13. The, trumpet shell will be used against the crown of thorns starfish to save the eoral of Australia’s worldfamous Great Barrier Reef.: The Queensland Government ordered the Undersea war this weefcto protect the reefs main tourist attraction. The Treasurer, Mr Gordon Chalk, said that the crown of thorns starfish, which killed coral, had infested a large number of reefs off the Queensland coast , He ordered a total ban on the taking, dredging or possessing of W»e trumpet shell, the only known natural enemy of the crown of thegns starfish. Mr. Chalk said live trumpet shells would be transplanted to infested reefs in a bid to get rid of the starfish.
