Caravan users are sociable people as is shown by the big membership of New Zealand’s many caravan clubs.
In Christchurch alone the club of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) has reached its limit with 220 families and the Christchurch Caravan Club, formed recently, is also prospering.
The club is not a closed one, but because of the restricted numbers which
may be accommodated in the rally sites and halls, membership has had to be limited. Should vacancies occur, any member of the A.A. is eligible for membership.
New Zealand's biggest clubs Include the A.A. (Otago) Caravan Club in Dunedin and the Wellington
Caravan Club. A new club has recently been formed in the Bay of Plenty. Mr Thomas maintains liaison with this and other clubs.
Caravan clubs are also hospitable. When British caravan enthusiasts are visiting New Zealand, the A.A.C. club gives them a six-month honorary membership. Similar reciprocal arrangements are available for New Zealanders visiting Britain. One-third of the A.A.C. Club is active at any one time.
Established in November, 1933, the club holds seven or eight rallies each year between September and April. It is also active during the “off-season” with a ball, social and sporting events.
