New Simca 1100

A new Simca 1100 which features front-wheel-drive and a transverse-mounted engine has been annouced in France, and is now on display at the Paris Motor Show. The fourdoor saloon has an engine producing 56 b.h.p. at 5800 r.p.m. and has disc brakes on the front wheels. The car is also available in a two-door version, and with a van body. The normal saloon body features a tailgate door which makes the vehicle a semi station-waggon. All wheels are independently suspended and torsion bars are used as the springing medium. In all versions the rear seat folds forward to provide additional luggage space, and the steering column is fitted with a universal joint for safety reasons. The engine drives through a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox which has a separate oil supply.
