POLICY ON ALARMS
The Fire Service Council had requested that now the 111 emergency telephone system had been introduced fire hoards should not extend street alarm systems, the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board was told on Wednesday evening. The board received a letter from the Halswell County Council asking about the possibility of installing a street alarm at Halswell. When a fire occurred there recently telephones had been out of action.
The Chief Fire Officer (Mr L. R. Osmond) said it was the policy of the board not to extent) the alarm system beyond the city, and the Fire Service Council had now asked boards not to extend their systems. It was decided to tell the Halswell Council of the position.
