Trip Without Fare
(N.Z. Preu Annotation) AUCKLAND, Oct 12. A man who engaged a Wellington taxi to take him to Auckland did not have enough money to pay for the trip, but just felt like a ride, SeniorSergeant B. R. Richards said in the Magistrate’s Court today. William Pou, aged 31, ■ingle, a bricklayer’s labourer, was charged with obtaining credit by fraud on October 10 by incurring a debt of $lOB with Robert Tairau.
Pou, who pleaded guilty, was remanded In
custody for a week by Mr C. E. H. Pledger, S.M. Senior-Sergeant R. R. Richards said Pou took the taxi from Wellington railway station about 11.45 p.m. on October 10 and asked to be driven to Auckland.
Pou had said he did not have any money but his sister would pay the fare in Auckland. He told the driver that his mother had died in Green Lane Hospital. In Auckland the driver took Pou to the police station after he failed to pay the fare. Pou had 22c in his pocket.
