Hearings Finished (N.Z. Press Association! WELLINGTON, October 12. The 147-clause Maori Affairs Amendment Bill would probably be referred back to Parliament by the Maori Affairs Committee after the end of the two-week Parliamentary recess on October 23 the chairman of the committee, Mr A. McCready (Nat., Otaki) said today. The committee, which has been sitting at least once a week since early in June, completed its hearings of evidence today. Mr McCready said the commitee had heard 24 direct submissions from Maori tribes, Maori land incorporations, Maori trusts, the Maori Council and other interested organisations. Many delegations which gave evidence to the committee also represented other interests in their area. The bill deals with frag-l mentation of Maori land, uneconomic interests, land incorporations and the better use of Maori land.
