RANDOM REMINDER

ORGANISATION

Another step to dispel old superstitions about the coincidences of Friday and the 13th of the month is being taken today by th ■ Hagley High School Parent Teacher Association. The association is doing more than giving a lead to the younger generation: it is bent not only on making them upright, but having them seated as well. Not long ago a fine new gymnasium and assembly hall was opened at the school, and the association is raising funds to provide chairs. One of its main activities will bear fruit today, with the operation of a stall in Cathedral Square, and it seems certain to be a stall to leave most others of its kind far behind. Months of preparation

have gone into producing what should be a memorable buyers’ market. It started long ago with a number of Christchurch firms making - gifts of materials, and parents—mostly women, presumably—spending the long winter evenings converting them into children's clothing. This is a principal line, and one which will offer the shopper with a keen eye for a bargain, and for quality, unlimited opportunities. It will also be possible, however, to feed a family for several weekends from the vast quantities of buns and cakes, bread rolls, eggs, vegetables, and so forth, which will be on the shelves. And in keeping with tradition, there will be loads of lovely homemade jam and preserves.

Definitely a buyers’ market: quality at wonderful prices. If the men on the association's committee have not been able to do much sewing or jam making, tley have been very good at ordering the women about, and today their own ability to organise will be tested. Wisely, the planning has been directed at removing the necessity for eager buyers to swarm all over the stall as soon as the last peg has been driven in the ground. The scheme is for a stream of vehicles to maintain supplies at the stall at a steady level, by carefully co-ordinating the collection of goods from contributors. This is one occasion when, if you decide to be In, you will definitely win.
