Classes For Handicapped
Twelve young men aged between 17 and 19, w’ho are members of the Christchurch Special Class After Care Society, will attend the first class to be held at the society’s new holiday and adventure camp at Governor's Bay tomorrow. The camp, in the old Governor’s Bay School, has been organised by the society to help handicapped persons make better social adjustment. Activities which have been arranged for the class tomorrow by the Canterbury Youth Activities Officer (Mr L. J. Coughlan), include a cricket training session, a walk, supervised swimming and a nature study programme. The chairman of the society (Mr D. F. Stewart) said that although at present only day classes would be held, as activities developed an overnight stay would be held at least once a month.
Accommodation for eight persons had been completed and it was hoped to increase this later to 12.
