FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone covering most of New Zealand is moving slowly north-east as a trough of low pressure moves east over the southern Tasman. Forecast:

Kaikoura coast, Canterbury.—Moderate northeasterlies on the coast; north-westerlies freshening in some inland areas; cloudy in the south, otherwise partly cloudy: mild weather. Central Marlborough and the Sounds;—Fresh north-westerlies; clear or partly cloudy; mild. Nelson.—Light or moderate northerlies; clear or partly cloudy; mild.

Buller and Westland.—Partly cloudy in the north but cloudy in the south with some scattered rain developing; mild.

Outlook.—Mainly cloudy; some rain in Westland and the Alps.
