Te Kura Lounge

Sir, —Evidently Mr Hayes does not live in Bealey Avenue as the noise level over recent weeks has in the minds of local residents been quite obnoxious. We have complained repeatedly for the last nine months and feel it is high time some definite action was taken before the

pre-Christmas parties begin again. The hall may be in a commercial area but it fringes on a residential B zone.— Yours, etc..

INTERESTED. October 6, 1967.

Sir, —Like “Interested,” I would like to know when something will be done about the noise nuisance from the Te Kura Lounge. No protest was made when the hall was being built, as residents understood it was to be recreation rooms and gymnasium, not a dance hall. This land was rezoned to allow N.A.C. to purchase for their depot, which would not have been detrimental to local residents. This plan did not eventuate, but the land was not returned to Residential B. Could not those using the hall park their cars in the commercial area, leaving us in the residential zone space, outside our homes and easy access to our own garages? What assurance have we that the building being erected behind the lounge in the area which residents understood was to be used, for off-street parking will really be used for recreation and not as another dance hall?—Yours, etc., ALSO INTERESTED.

October 6, 1967. [The chairman of the house committee replies to “Interested”: “We understand the council have on several occasions checked the noise level at the lounge and have not found it excessive, but should the correspondent feel he has reason for complaint, we suggest he contact the manager of the lounge, who is always on the premises when functions are being held, and he will look into the matter immediately.” In reply to "Also Interested,” he said that squash courts are being built at the back of the hall.]
